You’ve built your skills. Now build the next generation.
If you love beauty and love teaching others, the cosmetology instructor program at Aveda Institute Boise and Twin Falls is for you. Licensed cosmetologists can choose from two tracks based on experience: a 1,000-hour program for those with fewer than three years in the field, or a streamlined 500-hour program for those with three or more years of professional experience as a cosmetologist.
Both cosmetology instructor programs run on a full-time schedule, so you move quickly from learning to leading. If you’re ready to make your mark as an educator, step back into our classroom and start shaping the future of the beauty industry sooner than you think.
The full-time instructor program is available at both Aveda Institute – Boise and Aveda Institute – Twin Falls.
The length of the program depends on your experience. Licensed cosmetologists with less than three years of experience behind the chair must take the 1,000-hour instructor program course, while licensed cosmetologists with three or more years of working experience can take the 500-hour instructor program course.
Teaching isn’t stepping back from the industry; it’s stepping deeper into it. As a beauty school instructor, you pass on skills you’ve built and sharpening them further. Explaining techniques, guiding students through challenges, and modeling professionalism all deepen your own mastery in ways that solo practice never quite does.
For many cosmetologists, instructing is also the right kind of change. It brings new energy, new challenges, and a broader sense of purpose, all without leaving the salon behind. Instructors spend real time on the floor with students, so you’re still in the work. And some educators choose to continue their own work with clients too.
Your impact can stretch well beyond your classroom. The students you train go on to build careers, serve clients, and shape the industry. That influence is lasting in a way that’s hard to find anywhere else in beauty.
Aveda has never been a conventional beauty brand. Since 1978, it has operated from a conviction that the beauty industry has a responsibility: to the people it serves, to the communities it operates in, and to the planet it depends on.
Plant-based formulas, cruelty-free standards, and a commitment to sustainability have been core to Aveda from the start. This foundation matters more than ever. Clients increasingly want to know what’s in the products being used on them and where those ingredients come from.
Training within the Aveda philosophy means you’re already fluent in the values driving modern beauty forward. It also means you graduate into something larger than a single job.
The Aveda professional network spans multiple countries, connecting graduates to salons, spas, and career opportunities across the globe. In an industry that rewards reputation and relationships, that network is a genuine asset, and one that can stay with you throughout your career.
We offer the instructor program as a full-time course, so our students can reach their educational goals as soon as possible. If you have questions about specific times and dates of classes, please contact us.
Contact our admissions team to learn more about program costs.
Yes! Financial aid is available to those who qualify. There are some unique aspects of the instructor program that makes financial aid opportunities different from those of our other programs. Only students enrolled in the 1,000-hour instructor program can qualify for financial aid. Those enrolled in the 500-hour program are not eligible because of the short duration of the program. Either way, it is a good idea to begin the financial aid process by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).
Many students at our school have qualified for Pell Grants. They have even qualified for grants that exceed the cost of our program, which means they could pay for the program and have some money left over without needing to take out a loan. Contact us to learn more about your financial aid opportunities.
You must have a current cosmetology license for the state of Idaho to enroll in either of our instructor programs. Enrolling in the 500-hour program requires three or more years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist.
If you are ready to advance your future, start the enrollment process by contacting our admissions team to book a school tour and request more information about the instructor program. We can set up a time to discuss your educational goals and needs, the costs of the program, and the advantages of choosing an Aveda school.
