embrace your creativity with a cosmetology education!
Aveda’s cosmetology program is a 1,600 hour course.
Cosmetology is a field full of creativity and a passion for helping other people. Many cosmetologists love working in the beauty industry because they have the opportunity to express themselves and find themselves. Sound like something you’d be interested in?
Consider a career in cosmetology!
The cosmetology program at Aveda Institute Idaho is 1,600 clock hours, which most students complete in just under a year. The program also has full-time and part-time schedules available to accommodate your needs. These different scheduling options are offered to allow our students to prioritize their life how they need and to spend time discovering themselves.
What Can I Learn in the Program?
The cosmetology programs at our campuses in Boise and Twin Falls are designed to help you become a licensed cosmetologist. This means that our students are provided with the opportunity to learn the basics they need to pass the state licensing exam, as well as more advanced topics to help them be successful after graduation. Here is a list of our major topic categories:
- The History of Cosmetology
- Chemistry of Color
- Guest Artists & Specialty Classes
- Safety & Sanitation
- Manicures & Pedicures
- Makeup Application
- Fashion Shows
- Photo Shoots
- Charity Events
- Financial Planning
- And More
Our students begin their cosmetology experience with 260 hours of introductory material that is aimed at getting them ready to hit the salon floor as soon as possible. This instructional time includes weekly live model practice and other exercises to help cosmetologists gain confidence in their skills. Once they’ve got a handle on the basics, we have students perform services on the salon floor.
Business + Beauty
Being a cosmetologist isn’t just about cutting hair, it’s about building your own brand and business. Our cosmetology students can learn the business business end of their beauty careers from our talented owners, Ren Shaw and Nate Shaw. These talented individuals own Aveda Institutes in Boise and Twin Falls as well as their own salon, so they have an idea of what it takes to be successful in the beauty world!
The Aveda Difference
Learning beauty at an Aveda Institute Idaho is different from learning at other schools for many reasons. Students still have the opportunity to prepare for the state licensing exam and become licensed cosmetologists, but Aveda schools also offer students the opportunity to work with world-class Aveda products. After graduation, students will have unique access to Aveda products that other graduates would not, which can expand the opportunities our graduates have.
Our graduates also automatically become part of the Aveda network, which is the huge family of Aveda professionals spanning the entire globe. The network is an important support system for graduates that can facilitate growth, continuing education, and even unique business opportunities. This network provides our students a place where they can be themselves and feel part of something greater!
Hands-On Learning at Aveda Institute
Learning in the classroom is essential for the first portion of any cosmetology program, but we want our students to spend most of their time on the salon floor. The best cosmetologists learn by doing, so our students have the opportunity to practice and perfect their services and real clients. This can be intimidating for many of our students, so we make sure they have the support of licensed cosmetologists to help them feel more confident!
Working the salon floor is also important because we want our students to begin building their book of business. We encourage students to take the clients they’ve serviced with them wherever they go after graduation to give them a head start after graduation. Students can take advantage of this floor experience to find their stride and get in touch with what they love.
The world of cosmetology is huge, and there are many new and exciting things that our students have the opportunity to learn. This is why we bring industry experts and educators to hold seminars and extracurricular learning opportunities so our students can learn on the leading edge of the industry. This is the opportunity our students crave to find themselves and be a part of something bigger!

Lash extensions have become all the rage in recent years, and we want our students to know how to apply them.
