Are you looking into beauty school but have some fears about what our economy will look like? It’s not uncommon to feel worried about going to beauty school in a time of economic uncertainty. Actually, most people are probably feeling the same concerns you are, and your feelings are justified. It can be scary not knowing 100% if it’s the right choice for you.
While it’s easy to let your anxiety take over, you can choose to respond in a positive way. Being in a recession is something that we can’t control. But we can control how we respond to it. Like Charles Swindoll said, “life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” Let’s dive into our top tips for choosing to go to beauty school in a time of economic uncertainty.
Knowledge is power
Recessions are nothing new and this isn’t the last recession the world will see. Recessions can be painful, but we have made it through before. The more you read and understand the history of past economic hardships, the better you will understand the economic hardships that will come.
The beauty industry is forecasting growth in the near future, despite concerns of another recession approaching. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, consumers will need 11% more hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists by the year 2031. With this knowledge, hopefully, you can find confidence in your choice in going to beauty school; despite all the fears that come with it.
Focus on performance
Keep your head down and focus on becoming the best version of yourself. You’re only in beauty school once so don’t let the fear overwhelm you and ruin your experience. Focus on doing great work. Focus on learning new skills and techniques. When you can maintain your motivation through a scary time, you’ll be sure to shine through to the end.
Focus on the future
Focusing on the long view is a great way to manage your concerns and reduce your worries. Remind yourself that the economy will ebb and flow – and you have the skills and talents to get through it successfully. Take it as a learning experience as you face the challenges and overcome them. Remind yourself that you’re resilient and you’ll make it through. Every tough situation you are in will build your resilience and your capabilities. You’ll be stronger because of it.
Beauty never goes out of style
The good news is that beauty is something that will never go out of style. People will always need a haircut, skincare, and other beauty needs. Being in this industry is a little more recession-proof than some other careers. Despite how some people might view the beauty industry as a luxury, for many it is a necessity.
Know you’re not alone
As lonely as a recession can seem, know you’re not alone. When a recession hits, we’re all in it together. Just know that there are other students going through the same worries as you. You’ll have a support system right there with you every step of the way.
Get started on your journey
We don’t know what will happen in the future, and you essentially have to do what’s right for you. Challenges are bound to happen when it comes to life, and this definitely won’t be the last challenge you’ll face in your career choice. Just remember to be proactive and stay optimistic. The challenges that feel forced upon you by a recession can be embraced and accepted. And on the far side of the tougher times can be a life you enjoy more than the one you had before!
