5 Winter Hair Hacks for All Hair Types!

The cold months are known for their drying qualities. Skin and hair both tend to become more brittle in a Winter climate. If your hair is begging for a new Winter routine, check out these 5 hacks for all hair types!

1. Moisturize

Moisturizing isn’t just for your skin. When your hair dries out, it gets frizzy. To combat frizz and lock in moisture, use a hair masque at least twice a month. Some hair types will need a little extra lovin’ when it comes to conditioning (I’m looking at you curly girls), but for most hair, twice a month will do. We love Aveda’s dry remedy™ moisturizing masque!

2. Be Gentle

With all the stress your hair is undergoing during the cold season, make sure to be more careful than usual. Always use a protection spray like Aveda’s brilliant™ damage control™ spray. This product protects hair from damage caused by brushing and heat-styling tools. Avoid styling hair with heat as much as possible.

3. Cover It Up

Beanies and hats are more than cute, they’re an armor for your hair! While you may be a little disappointed about hat-hair, it’s better than exposing your hair to dry air. Try to wear a hat if you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside. Extra cool tip: wear a silk bonnet or scarf under your hats to avoid that dreaded frizz!

4. Go Easy on the Shampoo

It’s been common hair knowledge for some time now that the more you shampoo your hair, the more you strip it of the natural oils it needs. If you can cut down the amount of times you wash your hair in the shower, the better off. Oils help your hair lock in that important moisture we talked about in tip #1!

5. Eat Well, and Drink Water!

This tip is one that is applicable in all months but particularly in Winter. The better you treat your body, the better it will treat you! Healthy hair starts with a well hydrated, well-fed body. Eat good fats like the ones in fish and avocado, and make sure to drink water throughout the day.
