Five Reasons Why You Should Become A Barber
Let’s face it, more men are taking the time to groom themselves from head to toe these days. Because of this, the demand for barbers is growing at a rapid rate! We know choosing to switch careers or starting a career after high school can be overwhelming, but we’re here to help take some of that burden off of you. Here’s some fun and valuable information that can help you make a decision to pursue a future in barbering!
Social Environment
Are you an extrovert? Do you value relationships and like to expand your social circle? Barbering could be the career for you! Every day you walk into work, you will socialize. Barbershops are known as a place for men to go hangout and socialize while getting a haircut.
You have the opportunity to create a fun environment with your clients and create a social network with them. Each client is different which means there will be a new conversation with every appointment. You could even be surprised at what you could learn and who you could network with simply by having a conversation. Getting paid to socialize seems like a pretty cool gig, don’t you think?
Use Your Creativity
While you will have clients who want a standard and simple cut, you could also have clients that want more of a trendy or unique look. No client’s needs are the same. If you consider yourself a creative person and have the passion to to refine and develop your skills as a barber, you’ll never get bored!
This profession allows you to grow so much in the creativity aspect and pushes you to think outside the box. Many barbers think of themselves as artists and the client’s hair is their work of art! Choose barbering and you could keep up with trends, feel rewarded through helping others increase self-confidence, and create your own masterpieces!
Keep An Active Lifestyle
While using your creativity, you also have the opportunity to stay active. Instead of having a job where you feel stagnant sitting at a desk five days a week, choose a career that allows you to keep an active lifestyle. As a barber, you will be washing, cutting, and styling hair which means using many upper-body muscles. As you do these tasks it will also require stamina and good health due to how much you will be standing and moving around. This means you will also be using many lower-body muscles. Barbering may not be as rigorous as a workout session at the gym, but this career allows you to stay active and keep your body moving all day!
Flexible Work Schedule
As a barber, you could have flexibility in a number of areas. A big reason many are interested in barbering is because of the flexibility they have with their schedule. If you want to work part-time, weekends, only a day-shift, or full-time, there are options to choose the schedule that works best for you and can help relieve the stress of any other commitments. You also can choose when you want your vacation days which can mean more time for traveling — a plus for all you millenials out there! If you are interested in creating your own schedule and being your own boss, barbering could be for you.
Cool Career Opportunities
The most common work setting for a barber is easy to guess – a barbershop – but did you know that there are many industries and opportunities that you could take advantage of! Choose to work in a unisex salon where men seek the same personal care that women get. Enter the television or film industry and enjoy expressing your creativity through different styles needed for certain projects. You could even choose to work in the music industry and travel with a musician or create a look for an album cover. The opportunities are endless! Some other career opportunities include social media (Instagram or YouTube influencer), editorial, and even positions in retail. The simple truth is that everyone always needs a haircut, which means barbering is an in-demand career and the job security is high!
